CHAPTER 3 — The House of Lies

Police searched the Moreno home the following morning.

Every room revealed another secret.

A locked office.

Hidden financial ledgers.

Luxury purchases made in Valeria's name.

Three life insurance policies.

Each worth more than two million dollars.

The beneficiary?

Julian Moreno.

The detective stared at Ernesto.

"He wasn't planning for a divorce."

Ernesto nodded grimly.

"He was planning for a funeral."

Meanwhile, Ofelia insisted everything was a misunderstanding.

She blamed accountants.

Lawyers.

Banks.

Anyone but herself.

Until investigators opened a small safe hidden behind a painting.

Inside sat dozens of handwritten journals.

Each one belonged to Valeria.

Only...

The final pages had been ripped out.

The missing pages were discovered in Ofelia's bedroom fireplace.

Half-burned.

One sentence remained readable.

"If anything happens to me, it won't be an accident."

May you like

Silence filled the room.

Even Ofelia stopped talking.
