Chapter 3: The Courtroom

Within forty-eight hours, Vanessa's bank accounts were frozen.

Every transfer she had made using Daniel's business accounts was traced.

The stolen cash from the sewing box was recovered through financial records.

But the security footage became the most devastating evidence.

In court, Vanessa arrived wearing an expensive white suit, convinced she could charm the judge.

She smiled confidently until Daniel's attorney pressed Play.

The courtroom fell silent.

Video after video filled the screen.

Vanessa screaming at an elderly stroke victim.

Vanessa locking bedroom doors.

Vanessa striking Elena with a wooden spoon.

Vanessa stealing cash.

Vanessa laughing while Daniel's mother begged for water.

Even Vanessa's own lawyer slowly lowered his head.

"There is nothing to explain," the judge finally said.

Daniel's mother testified despite her trembling voice.

Elena testified next.

She never exaggerated.

She simply told the truth.

When the verdict arrived, Vanessa was convicted of elder abuse, assault, financial fraud, and domestic violence.

She was sentenced to prison.

As officers led her away in handcuffs, she turned toward Daniel.

"You ruined my life."

Daniel met her eyes calmly.

May you like

"No, Vanessa."

"You recorded your own."
