The arrests happened just after midnight.
Eleanor was charged with felony child endangerment, domestic assault, unlawful imprisonment, financial fraud, identity theft, and elder trust abuse.
Audrey faced charges for conspiracy, child neglect, destruction of evidence, and assisting financial fraud.
Neither woman expected handcuffs.
"This is my son's house!" Eleanor screamed as deputies escorted her outside.
I finally answered.
"No."
"It never was."
Daniel handed her one final envelope.
Inside was a formal eviction order.
Effective immediately.
Every bank account connected to the family trust had already been frozen.
Every unauthorized transfer had been reversed.
Every item purchased with stolen money had been seized under court order.
As deputies loaded them into separate patrol vehicles, Audrey suddenly burst into tears.
"You can't do this to family!"
I looked at her through the flashing blue lights.
"You stopped acting like family the day you abused my wife and endangered my son."
Neither of them said another word.
