Chapter 3 – A Lifetime of Favoritism

While Claire recovered, memories she had buried for decades resurfaced.

Every birthday belonged to Vanessa.

Every achievement Claire earned somehow became Vanessa's accomplishment.

When Claire received a scholarship, Eleanor skipped the ceremony because Vanessa had dance practice.

When Claire announced her pregnancy, Eleanor simply asked,

"So... does this mean Vanessa won't be the first to give me grandchildren?"

Claire finally admitted something she had never spoken aloud.

"My mother has hated me since Dad died."

Ethan frowned.

"What do you mean?"

"My father left half of everything to me."

She swallowed.

"But Mom always believed Vanessa deserved it all."

Ethan suddenly remembered something.

The family trust.

He immediately called his attorney.

Within hours, they uncovered a shocking discovery.

Six months earlier...

Eleanor had attempted to convince Claire to sign documents transferring her inheritance.

Claire had refused.

Two weeks later...
