Chapter 1: The Truth on the Screen

Chapter 1: The Truth on the Screen
Daniel Crawford stared at the security monitor, unable to blink.
Every second of footage felt like another blow to his chest.
There was Victoria—his wife of twelve years—opening the family safe with the code only the two of them knew.
She calmly removed diamond necklaces, bundles of cash, and antique jewelry worth nearly half a million dollars.
Then she walked through the hallway, glanced around to make sure no one was watching, and slipped everything into the maid's worn canvas bag while the young woman was downstairs helping Daniel's sons finish their homework.
There was no misunderstanding.
No missing angle.
No excuse.
The cameras had captured every second.
Daniel's hands shook as he replayed the video again.
And again.
The woman on the screen wasn't acting in panic.
She wasn't confused.
She was smiling.
Outside, he could still hear the maid's children crying.
"Mama! Please don't take our mama!"
Daniel didn't hesitate.
He grabbed a portable hard drive, copied every second of the footage, and ran outside.
"Stop!"
The officers turned.
Victoria frowned.
"Daniel, what are you doing?"
He ignored her and walked directly to the police captain.
"Remove those handcuffs."
The officer looked confused.
"Sir, your wife reported the theft."
"My wife lied."
Daniel held up the hard drive.
"I have security footage proving that she planted every single item herself."
Silence spread across the driveway.
Victoria's confident smile slowly disappeared.
"Daniel..."
May you like
He looked at her with eyes she had never seen before.
"They're going to watch the video."
