Chapter 5 – Home Again

Chapter 5 – Home Again
The following week, Daniel drove across town to Grace's modest apartment.
When she opened the door, she looked surprised.
"Liam asked if we could come."
Before Grace could answer, Liam threw his arms around her.
"You came back."
Grace smiled through tears.
"I never stopped caring about you."
Daniel took a deep breath.
"I owe you an apology."
"I failed to see who was truly protecting my son."
Grace shook her head gently.
"You were grieving too."
Daniel extended a small envelope.
Inside was a new employment contract.
But there was one unexpected addition.
Director of Family Care.
"I don't need a housekeeper," Daniel said softly.
"My son needs someone who reminds him what love feels like."
Grace accepted.
Months later, the Carter mansion no longer echoed with silence.
The kitchen was once again filled with the smell of homemade bread.
Liam laughed while stirring soup beside Grace.
Family dinners became a cherished tradition.
One evening, Liam looked at the framed photograph of his mother, smiled, and quietly said,
"Mom... I still miss you every day."
Then he reached for Daniel's hand and Grace's at the same time.
"But I know you'd be happy because we're smiling again."
Daniel looked out at the warm lights glowing through the windows of the home that had once felt empty.

He finally understood that healing doesn't happen because time passes—it happens because love remains, carried forward by the people who choose to stay.
And as laughter echoed through the house once more, he realized that the greatest fortune he would ever possess was not his wealth, but the family he had finally learned to protect.
