Chapter 4: One Final Chance

Chapter 4: One Final Chance
Three weeks later.
Victor requested a private meeting.
He looked nothing like the arrogant man from the gala.
His expensive watch was gone.
His tailored suit had been replaced by a modest navy jacket.
He entered Evelyn's office alone.
"I came to apologize."
She said nothing.
"I've lost nearly everything."
Still silence.
He lowered his head.
"But losing my company wasn't the worst part."
"My daughter watched the video."
His voice cracked.
"She asked me why I treated another human being that way."
For the first time, Evelyn saw genuine shame.
Not fear.
Not desperation.
Regret.
She handed him a folder.
Inside was an employment application.
Victor frowned.
"A job?"
"Community Service Director."
He looked confused.
Evelyn explained.
"For one year, you'll supervise volunteer programs serving hospitals, shelters, and public schools."
"No boardroom."
"No assistants."
"No executive title."
"Just people."
Victor slowly nodded.
"I'll do it."
May you like
Evelyn smiled for the first time.
"Then perhaps you've already begun rebuilding something far more valuable than your fortune."
