The prison visitation room was silent.
She looked older than Ethan remembered.
"I did everything for you," she whispered.
"I wanted our family to stay powerful."
Ethan calmly placed several photographs on the table.
Pictures of Olivia recovering.
Ultrasound images of their unborn baby.
And finally—
A family portrait taken just days before the accident.
"This," he said softly, "is my family."
"You spent years convincing me that power mattered more than love."
"You were wrong."
Margaret reached across the table.
"Ethan..."
He stood before she could touch him.
"I forgave you for being a difficult mother."
"I will never forgive you for trying to murder my wife."
Without another word, he walked away.
