Months passed.
Noah slowly recovered.
The nightmares became less frequent.
He smiled more.
He laughed again.
One Saturday afternoon, we returned to the neighborhood park where he and Matthew had spent countless summers chasing soccer balls.
Matthew asked quietly, "Can we play?"
Noah looked at me.
I nodded.
The boys ran across the grass as though childhood still had room for second chances.
Not every relationship survived.
Sarah remained distant, attending counseling and writing letters she never expected us to answer.
