Trump Cites ‘Obama Ally,’ Continues Urging Senate GOP To End Filibuster

Trump Cites ‘Obama Ally,’ Continues Urging Senate GOP To End Filibuster

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has once again called on Republican senators to eliminate the filibuster, arguing that the rule is preventing the party from advancing key legislation.

In recent remarks, Trump pointed to comments made by an ally of former President Barack Obama, using them to support his argument that the Senate’s long-standing procedural rule should be reconsidered.

The filibuster, a rule in the United States Senate that allows senators to delay or block legislation unless 60 votes are reached to end debate, has been a major point of political contention for years.

Trump argues that the requirement gives too much power to the minority party and slows down the legislative process, especially when one party controls both chambers of Congress and the presidency.
