Chapter 2: The Price of Betrayal
The front door opened again.
This time it wasn't executives.
It was attorneys.
Behind them came financial investigators.
Finally, two detectives stepped inside.
The room became painfully quiet.
The lead attorney addressed the man without emotion.
"You've been served."
He stared blankly.
"For what?"
"Fraud."
Another folder landed beside the first.
"Embezzlement."
A second.
"Breach of fiduciary duty."
A third.
"Corporate espionage."
The woman in red grabbed his arm.
"Tell them they're lying!"
But he couldn't speak.
Because every document carried his own signature.
The detectives approached.
"Sir, we'd like you to come with us."
His confidence shattered.
He rushed toward the woman he had mocked only minutes earlier.
"Please..."
His voice cracked.
"I made mistakes."
"I loved you."
She didn't even blink.
"No."
She answered softly.
"You loved having someone to control."
The woman in red suddenly stepped away from him.
"I don't know this man."
His eyes widened.
"You said we'd be together!"
She shrugged.
"I'm not going down with you."
For the first time in his life...
He understood what abandonment felt like.
The detectives escorted him toward the door.
Halfway out, he turned around one last time.
She hadn't moved.
She wasn't smiling.
Victory wasn't exciting to her.
It was simply justice arriving on schedule.
The front door closed behind him.
The sound echoed through the mansion.

His empire had lasted eight years.
Its collapse had taken less than eight minutes.
