Chapter 2: Karma Collects

Chapter 2: Karma Collects
Panic erupted.
The woman in the red dress grabbed his arm.
"Do something!"
He shoved her away.
"This is YOUR fault!"
"My fault?" she screamed.
"You told me she was powerless!"
Their perfect relationship collapsed faster than their fortune.
The front door opened once again.
This time, several security officers entered.
The executive handed over another folder.
"Fraud."
"Corporate theft."
"Forgery."
"Embezzlement."
Each accusation struck harder than the last.
The former executive's confidence vanished completely.
"There has to be a mistake!"
"There isn't," the lead investigator replied.
"We've been collecting evidence for eighteen months."
His face turned ghost white.
"You planned this..."
She looked him directly in the eyes.
"I gave you eighteen months."
"Eighteen months to become the man I believed you already were."
"You chose greed."
As the officers escorted him toward the door, he finally broke.
"I'm sorry."
"I made a mistake."
"I loved you."
She shook her head gently.
"No."
"You loved what I gave you."
When the doors closed behind him, the mansion became perfectly quiet.
The woman in the crimson dress stood alone, abandoned.
No money.
No protector.
No future.
May you like
She hurried after him.
He didn't even look back.
