Chapter 3: The Truth Behind One Winter Night

The Cross Estate overlooked Boston Harbor.

It wasn't merely a mansion.

It was a fortress hidden behind iron gates and centuries-old oak trees.

Lena stood in the grand foyer, feeling painfully out of place.

Marble floors.

Crystal chandeliers.

Paintings worth more than everything she had earned in her lifetime.

A housekeeper approached.

"Miss Harper, your room has been prepared."

"My room?"

Damon answered before anyone else could.

"You're staying here."

"I can't."

"You can."

"I don't belong—"

"You belong wherever our child is safe."

His certainty left no room for argument.

Later that evening, Lena sat in the estate's private medical suite while Dr. Evelyn Brooks completed an ultrasound.

The steady rhythm of a tiny heartbeat filled the room.

Damon froze.

He had negotiated billion-dollar deals without blinking.

But hearing that sound...

It shattered every wall inside him.

Dr. Brooks smiled.

"Healthy."

Lena cried quietly.

Damon reached for her hand.

She didn't pull away.

"There are actually..." the doctor paused.

"...two heartbeats."

Silence.

Lena looked up.

"I'm sorry... what?"

Dr. Brooks laughed softly.

"Congratulations."

"You're having twins."

Damon stared at the screen in disbelief.

Twins.

His children.

His carefully controlled life changed forever in a single sentence.

Outside the examination room, his longtime adviser Marcus Reed smiled for the first time in years.

"The boss is finished."

Another guard frowned.

"What do you mean?"

May you like

Marcus chuckled.

"He just became a father."
