Chapter 4 – Sisters Learning to Heal

Weeks passed.

Vanessa visited Lily every day.

Sometimes they laughed.

Sometimes they argued.

Sometimes they simply sat together looking through old family photographs.

Healing wasn't easy.

Vanessa confessed everything.

"I hated you before I even knew you."

Lily frowned.

"Why?"

"I thought Dad loved the daughter he lost more than the daughter he still had."

Lily finally understood.

Vanessa hadn't been born cruel.

She had been raised in the shadow of grief.

One afternoon they visited the small cemetery where a memorial stone had stood for Lily for two decades.

Vanessa placed white roses beside it.

"I spent my whole life talking to this stone."

Lily quietly wrapped an arm around her sister.

"You don't have to anymore."

Vanessa broke down crying.

"I'm so sorry for everything I did."

Lily held her tightly.

"I can't erase the past."

"But maybe we can build something better."

For the first time in twenty years...

The Ashford sisters stood together.

Not divided by tragedy.

United by truth.
