Chapter 3: When Power Changes Sides
Cassandra forced a laugh.
"This is ridiculous. It was just a misunderstanding."
William slowly stood.
"No."
"It was a choice."
She crossed her arms.
"You can't threaten me. My family owns half this city."
William looked around the ballroom.
"Interesting."
He turned toward the hotel manager.
"Who owns this hotel?"
"You do, sir."
"And the Beaumont Foundation gala being held here tonight?"
"We're hosting it under your approval."
William nodded.
"Cancel the event."
Gasps echoed across the ballroom.
"The Beaumont family is permanently banned from every Hayes property."
The manager immediately answered,
"Yes, Mr. Hayes."
Cassandra's smile disappeared.
