Vanessa laughed.
"This is ridiculous."
She crossed her arms confidently.
"You have no proof."
Detective Ruiz nodded calmly.
"Actually..."
He pointed toward the crystal chandelier.
"We already do."
Everyone looked up.
Hidden among the decorations was a tiny black lens.
Vanessa's heartbeat quickened.
"The Hart family recently upgraded their security system," Ruiz explained.
"The cameras now record audio."
Vanessa's face turned pale.
"No..."
The detective played the footage on his tablet.
Her own voice filled the room.
"You ruined my life!"
Then—
The violent shove.
Olivia tumbling backward.
Her body crashing down the wooden stairs.
Mrs. Evelyn covered her mouth.
"I... I didn't see..."
The recording continued.
Vanessa glanced around before whispering to herself.
"Now the baby will finally be gone."
The room froze.
Even Olivia closed her eyes for a second.
She had heard those words before.
But hearing them again was different.
Ruiz lowered the tablet.
"Attempted murder."
Vanessa suddenly screamed.
"She made me do it!"
"No."
A deep voice thundered from the hallway.
Every head turned.
Marcus Hart had arrived.
