Chapter 3 – Emma Tells the Truth

Emma sat inside the family room wrapped in a police blanket.

She wasn't crying anymore.

She simply looked confused.

"My mommy said today's supposed to be my birthday now."

The detective gently asked why.

Emma looked toward the kitchen.

"So Grandpa could finally forget Lily."

Everyone went silent.

Then Emma whispered something no one expected.

"Grandma says Lily isn't really family."

Marcus frowned.

"What does that mean?"

Emma shrugged.

"She says Lily isn't Grandpa's blood."

Detectives immediately noticed my father's reaction.

His face turned completely white.

That single sentence reopened an old mystery.

Years earlier my parents had demanded a DNA test after I became pregnant.

I refused.

Not because I doubted Lily.

Because I refused to let them decide whether my baby deserved love.

Now detectives wondered...

Why were they still obsessed four years later?

Then another bombshell exploded.

Police discovered my mother had secretly ordered an independent DNA test weeks earlier using hair collected from Lily's brush.

The report had arrived yesterday.

It proved...

Lily WAS my biological daughter.

But she wasn't related to the man my father always believed was my biological father.
