Chapter 4: The House Changes Hands

By evening, Daniel had contacted his attorney.

The family accountant arrived first.

The attorney arrived shortly afterward.

Every document was reviewed.

Every bank transfer was traced.

Every recording was copied.

Elise remained silent until the evidence covered the dining room table.

Then her confidence disappeared.

"You can't prove intent," she whispered.

Daniel slid the videos toward her.

"I don't have to."

The attorney calmly explained that the surveillance, financial records, and altered documents painted a devastating picture.

Before midnight, Elise packed several suitcases.

She paused in the foyer.

"You'll regret this."

Daniel looked at the woman he had married and realized he barely knew her.

"No," he answered quietly.

"I regret not coming home sooner."

She walked through the front doors without another word.

The house felt strangely peaceful after they closed behind her.
