Chapter 1: The Christmas Table

The grand ballroom fell silent as every guest watched the billionaire kneel in front of the two frightened girls.

"What's your name?" he asked softly.

The older girl hesitated before whispering, "Emily."

"And your sister?"

"Lily."

Their tiny hands clutched the stale slice of bread as if it were treasure.

The billionaire removed his expensive suit jacket and gently draped it over Emily's trembling shoulders.

"They're freezing," he said.

One woman scoffed.

"They're ruining the party."

He slowly turned toward the crowd.

"No."

His voice echoed across the marble hall.

"We ruined this night long before they walked through that door."

No one dared respond.

The chef stepped forward nervously.

"Sir... should I have security escort them out?"

The billionaire looked directly at him.

"I want the finest Christmas dinner you've ever prepared."

"For the guests?"

He shook his head.

"For my daughters tonight."

Gasps spread through the ballroom.

Emily immediately stood.

"We're not your daughters, mister."

His eyes softened.

"No," he smiled.

"But no child should ever spend Christmas hungry."

Minutes later, crystal plates normally reserved for royalty were placed in front of the two girls.

They stared in disbelief.

Turkey.

Mashed potatoes.

Fresh bread.

Hot chocolate topped with whipped cream.

Lily burst into tears before taking the first bite.

She had never tasted food this warm.

Many guests quietly lowered their eyes.

For the first time that evening, nobody cared about the champagne.

Everyone watched two little girls finally eat until they smiled.

May you like

And somehow...

That became the most beautiful Christmas gift in the room.
