Chapter 2: The Portrait on the Wall

Chapter 2: The Portrait on the Wall
The young man refused to let anyone leave.
"Lock every exit."
Security immediately sealed the mansion.
While the guests argued, the little girl quietly pointed toward the grand staircase.
"My room wasn't always the storage room."
She led him upstairs.
At the end of a long hallway hung dozens of family portraits.
She suddenly stopped.
Her tiny hand pointed toward one painting covered by a velvet curtain.
"That picture."
The young man pulled the curtain aside.
Every guest gasped.
The portrait showed a smiling couple...
Holding a little girl.
The same little girl standing beside him.
Only cleaner.
Healthier.
Happy.
The date painted beneath the frame read:
Eight Years Earlier.
The woman in purple collapsed into a chair.
"It's impossible..."
The young man looked closely.
The child wasn't just any missing girl.
She was the biological granddaughter of the mansion's original owner.
Years ago, the family had announced that she died in a tragic fire.
But there had never been a body.
Only ashes.
Someone had faked her death...
And hidden her inside the mansion she was destined to inherit.
