Chapter 2: The House of Lies Falls Apart

Chapter 2: The House of Lies Falls Apart

Less than thirty minutes later, three police cruisers returned to the Ashford estate.

This time, they weren't there for Sofia.

Detective Michael Harris walked through the front door holding a search warrant.

Victoria attempted one last performance.

"My husband is confused. Someone edited the footage."

Daniel calmly handed over the original cloud files.

"They're timestamped, encrypted, and backed up on three servers."

The detective nodded.

"No signs of tampering."

Victoria's confidence cracked.

Officers searched the mansion.

What they discovered shocked everyone.

Inside a locked storage room, investigators found missing jewelry that had disappeared over the past two years.

Silverware.

Rare watches.

Cash.

Even family heirlooms that Victoria had blamed on different employees.

Each theft had ended the same way.

Someone innocent lost a job.

Someone else's reputation was destroyed.

Sofia hadn't been the first victim.

She had almost become the latest.

Detective Harris closed the evidence box.

"So this wasn't about one necklace."

Daniel slowly shook his head.

"It was never about the necklace."

Victoria had built her reputation by creating enemies and pretending to rescue the family from them.

Every false accusation made her appear loyal.

Every innocent servant became disposable.

As officers prepared the arrest warrant, Victoria suddenly ran toward the back door.

She never made it outside.

Two officers stopped her before she reached the garden.

"You have the right to remain silent."

The same handcuffs she had watched being placed on Sofia hours earlier now locked around her own wrists.

Neighbors gathered outside.

News cameras arrived before sunrise.

The headlines spread across every local station.

Meanwhile, Daniel drove directly to the county jail.

Sofia sat quietly behind the glass partition, exhausted after the longest night of her life.

When she saw Daniel, she lowered her eyes.

"I'm sorry, sir."

Daniel's expression softened.

"You have nothing to apologize for."

A few minutes later, Detective Harris entered.

"Miss Bennett..."

He smiled.

"You're free to go."

For the first time that night...

Sofia cried.

May you like

Not from fear.

But from relief.
