Chapter 3: The Price of Love

Chapter 3: The Price of Love

Three anxious days later, the pathology report finally arrived.

The surgeon entered with a gentle smile.

"It's not the worst-case scenario."

Anna squeezed Luca's hand.

"The tumor is benign."

She burst into tears.

"So..."

"We still need surgery because of its size, but it isn't cancer."

The room filled with relief.

Luca covered his face with both hands.

His shoulders trembled.

Anna had never seen him cry.

Not once.

Yet there he was...

Silently breaking apart because she was going to live.

The surgery lasted nearly six hours.

Luca never left the waiting room.

Business associates called.

He ignored them.

Lawyers arrived with documents.

He refused to sign them.

Two rival families attempted to exploit his absence.

He didn't care.

Nothing mattered except the woman fighting for her future behind those operating room doors.

When the surgeon finally appeared, Luca stood before the doctor could even speak.

"She's okay."

That was all he needed to hear.

Recovery was slow.

Anna couldn't even walk to the hallway without assistance.

Every morning, Luca helped her brush her hair.

Every afternoon, he read novels she loved but had never admitted he secretly bought after she left.

Every evening, they talked.

Really talked.

For the first time in years...

Neither of them hid behind silence.

Healing wasn't only happening inside Anna's body.

It was happening inside both of their hearts.
