Chapter 2 — The Betrayal Behind the Family Name

By midnight, every member of Adrian's inner circle sat inside the underground security room beneath Romano Manor.

No one spoke.

On the massive screen, surveillance videos played hour after hour.

Emma remained beside the sleeping baby, now resting peacefully in a small crib.

She watched quietly until one clip made her sit forward.

"Stop."

The technician froze the image.

Marco stood beside the stroller during a charity gala.

He smiled at guests while gently adjusting the baby's blanket.

His hand disappeared beneath the blanket for less than two seconds.

"Zoom in."

The image sharpened.

Marco wasn't fixing the blanket.

He was pressing something against the baby's back.

The room fell silent.

Adrian stared at the screen without blinking.

"Play the next camera."

Another angle appeared.

Marco immediately checked his watch.

Exactly thirty seconds later, he walked outside and made a phone call.

The audio team enhanced nearby recordings.

One sentence emerged clearly.

"It's done."

No one breathed.

Adrian slowly stood.

"Bring him to me."

Less than an hour later, Marco was dragged into the room in handcuffs.

He didn't deny it.

Instead, he laughed bitterly.

"You think I wanted your money?"

Adrian said nothing.

Marco looked toward the sleeping baby.

"They weren't after your fortune."

His smile disappeared.

"They're after him."

Emma frowned.

"What do you mean?"

Marco's voice trembled.

"Someone believes your son is the key to an inheritance hidden long before Adrian became head of the Romano family."

He lowered his eyes.

"They promised to spare my wife and daughter if I helped them."

The confession shook even Adrian.

Because Marco had never cared about money.

But he would sacrifice everything for his family.
