The Mafia Boss Froze at His Wedding When He Saw a Little Girl With His Eyes
CHAPTER 2 — THE NAME SHE WAS NEVER SUPPOSED TO SAY
The rain didn’t ease. It hardened.
As if the sky itself understood something irreversible had just been spoken.
“Then what exactly should I call her?” Coraline repeated, her voice sharper now, louder—meant for the gathering crowd that was growing by the second.
Phones rose higher. People sensed blood in the water.
Garrett didn’t look at her. Not fully.
His eyes stayed on Mave.
Because Coraline was noise.
But Mave… was the only thing in the world that still felt real.
“Mave,” he said again, softer this time. “Tell me.”
Mave’s grip on Posie tightened.
For a moment, Garrett thought she wouldn’t answer. That she would do what she did three years ago—vanish again, slip through his life like smoke.
But then she exhaled.
And spoke.
“She’s yours.”
The words didn’t land immediately.
They hung in the air, suspended between thunder and heartbeat.
Even Wesley stopped breathing.
Coraline’s expression flickered—just once.
Garrett blinked slowly.
“My… what?”
Mave finally lifted her eyes to his.
And in them was not softness.
It was survival.
“She’s your daughter, Garrett.”
Something in his chest collapsed so violently it felt like impact.
For a second, the street disappeared.
The rain disappeared.
The wedding convoy, the empire, the enemies, the treaties—everything reduced itself to a single image:
A little girl with Hail-gray eyes staring at him like she didn’t know whether to run toward him… or away.
Garrett took one step forward.
Mave immediately stepped back.
“Don’t,” she warned.
That single word cut deeper than the revelation itself.
“Three years,” Garrett said hoarsely. “You had three years.”
“I had nothing,” she shot back. “Because your mother took everything.”
Coraline let out a short, controlled laugh.
“Oh, this is ridiculous.”
But no one was listening to her anymore.
Garrett’s voice dropped.
“Explain.”
Mave swallowed hard.
“She found out I was pregnant two weeks after I left your estate. She sent people. Lawyers. Threats. She told me if I ever contacted you, she would destroy both of us—and take the child before she was even born.”
Garrett’s jaw tightened.
“And you believed her?”
Mave’s laugh was broken.
“She didn’t need me to believe her. She proved it.”
A silence fell so heavy it felt physical.
Then Mave reached into the folder she had been protecting.
Her fingers trembled as she pulled out a folded document—aged, worn, handled too many times.
She handed it to him.
Garrett opened it.
A hospital record.
A birth certificate.
His name—typed in black ink under “Father.”
Everything inside him went still.
Behind him, Wesley muttered, “Boss…”
But Garrett couldn’t hear him.
Because the only sound left in the world was the realization that something had been stolen from him before he even knew it existed.
Posie shifted again.
“Mommy,” the little girl whispered, confused by the tension.
Mave kissed her forehead.
“It’s okay, baby.”
Garrett looked at his daughter again.
Really looked.
The gray eyes. The shape of her face. The faint Hail structure in her expression that no one could fake.
His voice cracked.
“What’s her name?”
Mave hesitated.
Then:
“Posie Whitlock.”
A name that didn’t belong to him.
That hurt more than anything.
Coraline stepped forward again, her patience gone.
“This is insane. Even if this story is true, Garrett, you are standing in the middle of your wedding—”
“I said enough,” Garrett snapped.
The sound silenced her instantly.
It wasn’t loud.
It didn’t need to be.
Coraline froze.
For the first time, she looked uncertain.
Because she realized something had shifted.
Not just his attention.
His loyalty.
His future.
Everything.
Garrett turned back to Mave.
“Who helped you disappear?”
Mave hesitated.
That hesitation told him everything.
His eyes darkened.
“My mother.”
Mave nodded once.
The rain felt colder.
Wesley stepped closer, voice low. “Boss, the Ashford family is moving. They’re not going to wait inside much longer.”
Garrett didn’t respond.
Because he was no longer inside that world.
He was outside of it.
For the first time in his life.
And looking in.
At Mave.
At his daughter.
At everything he was never told he lost.
He exhaled slowly.
Then made his choice.
“Cancel the wedding.”
May you like
Coraline went still.
The world did too.
