Chapter 3: The Truth Comes Out

Chapter 3: The Truth Comes Out
The husband pounded on the steel exit door.
"Open this! Do you hear me?"
Silence.
Then every monitor inside the warehouse suddenly came to life.
Security footage filled the screens.
His face.
His crimes.
Every conversation.
Every threat.
Every attempt to manipulate insurance investigators.
Every meeting with the mechanic he had bribed to sabotage Evelant's car.
Every phone call planning her "accidental" death.
He stared in disbelief.
"No... no, that's impossible."
"It isn't," Evelant's voice answered through the building's speaker system.
"You always believed I was one step behind you."
She paused.
"I've been three steps ahead."
Police sirens echoed outside.
The warehouse doors slowly rolled open as detectives, federal investigators, and uniformed officers entered the building.
One detective held up an arrest warrant.
Another carried financial records connecting the husband to embezzlement, fraud, and multiple attempted murders.
The husband looked toward the security cameras.
"You set me up."
Evelant's voice remained steady.
"No."
"You built the trap yourself."
As officers placed him in handcuffs, he finally understood.
The freezer had never been meant to kill her.
It had been bait.

She knew exactly where he would strike.
She only needed him to believe he had already won.
