Chapter 1: The Fallout
The ballroom no longer felt like a celebration. It felt like exposure.
Whispers spread through the crowd as the name “Edward Hall” echoed from the stage screens. Guests who had been laughing moments earlier now stared at their own hands, as if checking whether guilt could be found in fingerprints. The woman in the black gown stood frozen, her confidence shattered under the weight of what she had done.
The elderly man—Mr. Hall—remained calm. Too calm.
The young waiter, still holding the chair he had just offered, looked between the crowd and the old man, unsure whether he had just witnessed a miracle or the end of something far bigger.
Then Mr. Hall slowly stood.
