That evening Harold insisted on sitting in his study.
His family attorney arrived alongside Adrian.
Harold slowly removed a sealed envelope from his desk drawer.
"I was waiting until I was certain."
He looked directly at Celeste.
"I know you've been isolating me."
Celeste laughed nervously.
"Harold, you're confused."
"I may be old," Harold replied, "but I'm not blind."
He handed the envelope to the attorney.
Inside was a revised will.
Everything that had previously been designated for Celeste had been revoked months earlier.
Instead, Harold had established a charitable foundation for elder-care advocacy.
Adrian would oversee the foundation.
Mara would receive a substantial trust—not because she expected anything, but because Harold wanted to reward someone who had shown him genuine kindness.
Celeste's face turned pale.
