Chapter 3: Walking Away

Chapter 3: Walking Away
Police officers arrived just minutes later after receiving evidence that had already been sent to them before the ceremony began.
Investigators escorted the groom and his mother away as shocked guests watched in complete silence.
The bride picked up her bouquet from the muddy ground.
She brushed off the dirt.
Then she looked at the crowd.
"I spent years believing I needed someone to save me."
She smiled softly.
"I was wrong."
"I only needed the courage to stand."
She walked down the wedding aisle on her own, every step stronger than the last.
No wheelchair.
No fear.
No lies.
The guests slowly rose to their feet, applauding as she disappeared beyond the garden gates.
The wedding ended without a marriage.
But it marked the beginning of something far greater.
For the first time in years, she wasn't walking toward the life someone else had chosen for her.
