Chapter 2: The Photograph Finally Opens

Richard reached toward Sophie's pocket.

"May I see the photograph?"

She nodded.

"It was Mommy's favorite."

His fingers trembled as he unfolded the faded picture.

The room went completely still.

The young woman smiling in the photo looked remarkably like the child.

Standing beside her...

was Richard himself.

Twenty-three years younger.

His arm rested protectively around a little girl wearing...

the exact same silver bracelet.

Richard nearly dropped the photograph.

"No..."

Victoria rushed forward.

"That's fake."

But Richard flipped the picture over.

His handwriting.

His own signature.

"To my little Emily. Daddy will always find you."

His knees nearly gave out.

Emily.

His daughter.

The daughter everyone believed had died in the mansion fire.

Victoria grabbed the photo.

"You don't know where that came from!"

Richard slowly turned toward her.

"Then explain it."

She couldn't.

Not a single word.

Across the room, the oldest housekeeper began crying.

"I remember..."

Everyone looked toward the elderly woman.

"The night of the fire... Madam Victoria was the last person seen carrying little Emily upstairs."

Victoria's entire body stiffened.

The mansion had buried that secret for over two decades.

May you like

Tonight...

it had returned.
