Chapter 2: The Truth Buried by Millions

Chapter 2: The Truth Buried by Millions

That evening, Sophia canceled every meeting.

She hired investigators, lawyers, and forensic specialists.

Within forty-eight hours, hidden archives from Adrian Langford's abandoned research foundation began surfacing.

Most records had been erased.

One survived.

A videotape.

Sophia watched with trembling hands.

The recording showed Adrian sitting across from a government representative.

"The twins are genetically identical," Adrian said.

"The experiment requires environmental separation."

The official replied coldly,

"The wealthy environment versus extreme poverty."

Adrian hesitated.

"They're my sons."

"They're also the world's most valuable research subjects."

Sophia covered her mouth.

She had never known.

Another clip appeared.

Adrian arguing violently with the research board.

"I'm shutting this project down!"

"If you do, we'll expose every illegal trial your company funded."

"They're children!"

"They're data."

The recording ended abruptly.

Three months later, Adrian had supposedly died in a helicopter crash.

Now Sophia wasn't sure it had been an accident.

Meanwhile, Ethan and Noah spent the afternoon together.

At first they were awkward.

Then they laughed.

They discovered they both loved sketching buildings.

Both hated tomatoes.

Both rubbed the back of their necks while thinking.

But there were differences.

Ethan spoke three languages.

Noah knew how to repair bicycles from discarded parts.

Ethan had never missed a meal.

Noah knew exactly how long hunger could last before dizziness became normal.

That night Ethan walked into his mother's room.

"Mom..."

"Yes?"

"If Noah's my brother..."

He paused.

"...then why did I get everything?"

Sophia had no answer.

Only tears.
