Chapter 2: The Hidden Heir

Adrian stepped backward, overwhelmed by guilt.

"I... I never knew."

Grace smiled sadly.

"Your grandmother wanted it that way."

"Why?"

"Because she wanted me to earn my own place in this world."

The old woman nodded weakly.

"I promised Grace's parents I would protect her... not spoil her."

Adrian's eyes wandered around the luxurious bedroom.

"So she worked here..."

"As a maid," Grace answered.

"But only because she insisted."

The old woman reached for another envelope resting on the nightstand.

"Open it."

Inside was a signed legal document.

Adrian read the first page.

His breathing stopped.

His grandmother had established a family foundation years earlier.

Half of her fortune would fund hospitals, orphanages, and scholarships.

The remaining half...

Would belong to Grace.

Not because of blood.

But because of love.

Adrian looked stunned.

"You left almost everything to her?"

The old woman smiled peacefully.

"Money follows blood."

She gently squeezed Grace's hand.

"But family follows the heart."

Adrian lowered his head.

For the first time in years, he realized wealth had blinded him.

He had judged Grace by her uniform instead of her character.

Meanwhile, she had spent every day caring for the woman he barely visited.

Ashamed, Adrian quietly whispered,

"I'm sorry."

Grace looked at him with kind eyes.

"You don't owe me an apology."

"You owe her one."

Adrian walked to the bedside, took his grandmother's fragile hand, and broke into tears.

"I'm sorry I forgot what mattered most."
