Several months passed.
Damian requested a meeting.
Everyone expected Elena to refuse.
Instead, she agreed.
He entered her office wearing an inexpensive suit, looking years older than before.
"I came to apologize."
Elena remained silent.
"I spent years believing success gave me permission to look down on people."
He swallowed hard.
"I was wrong."
After a long pause, Elena finally spoke.
"I forgive you."
Damian looked up hopefully.
"But forgiveness isn't restoration."
"You'll have to build your future without the shortcuts you once relied on."
He nodded.
"I understand."
As he walked toward the door, Elena stopped him.
"One more thing."
He turned.
"This time..."
