CHAPTER 2 — THE TRUTH NO ONE KNEW

CHAPTER 2 — THE TRUTH NO ONE KNEW
The ballroom erupted into whispers.
Julian lunged forward.
"You're lying!"
Alexander calmly nodded toward the event's giant LED screen.
"Display the files."
The screen flickered to life.
Contracts.
Bank statements.
Emails.
Video recordings.
Every secret Julian had buried appeared before two hundred horrified guests.
Luxury vacations...
Paid with company funds.
Hidden offshore accounts.
Affairs.
Bribes.
Every lie carefully documented.
The chairman of the board slowly stood.
"You told us the company was thriving."
Julian opened his mouth.
Nothing came out.
Then came the final video.
It showed Julian inside his office only three nights earlier.
"If embarrassing my wife makes investors think I'm in control, then so be it," he laughed.
"She'll never leave.
She has nowhere else to go."
Gasps echoed through the ballroom.
The woman covered her mouth.
Twenty-two years.
Twenty-two years believing she wasn't enough.
Twenty-two years believing every cruel word.
Alexander quietly handed her another envelope.
"These belong to you."
She opened it.
Inside were letters.
Hundreds of them.
Every birthday.
Every anniversary.
Every holiday.
Letters addressed to her...
...that had never arrived.
Her late father's handwriting.
Julian's voice cracked.
"I can explain."
Alexander answered before she could.
"No.
You intercepted every letter."
"You isolated her."
"You controlled her."
"You convinced her she had no family left."
The woman collapsed into a chair, crying harder than ever before.
Not because her heart was breaking.
Because it was finally waking up.
Police officers entered through the ballroom doors.
They walked directly toward Julian.
The lead detective spoke clearly.
"Julian Carter...
you're under arrest."
May you like
For the first time in his life...
No one laughed.
