Chapter 3: The Moment He Was Too Late

Adrian pushed through the crowd.
“Excuse me—move.”
Voices called after him, confused, but he didn’t stop.
He ran down the steps.
Across the street.
Down the long, quiet sidewalk.
“Mom!”
His voice cracked through the air.
Nothing.
Only the distant sound of traffic.
Then he saw it.
A small worn purse left on a bench.
Next to it, a folded note.
His hands shook as he picked it up.
Only one line was written inside:
“I just wanted to see you say ‘I do’ before I said goodbye to life.”
The world tilted.
Behind him, the wedding music still played faintly through the church doors.
But it sounded distant now—like it belonged to someone else’s life.
Adrian stood frozen, the weight of everything he had ignored finally collapsing onto him at once.
Inside the church, a new life was waiting.
But outside…
May you like
He had already lost the one that mattered most.
And for the first time in his life, Adrian Blake understood that wealth, status, and perfection meant nothing when the person who built your world was no longer there to see it.
