Part 2

One by one, Daniel spread financial documents across the table.

"Three years ago, Dad's company was weeks away from bankruptcy."

Everyone looked at each other in disbelief.

"It wasn't my investment that saved us."

He turned toward Emily.

"It was hers."

Emily shook her head.

"You didn't have to tell them..."

"They deserve to know."

Daniel continued.

"She sold the company she built before we got married."

Gasps echoed through the room.

"She invested every dollar to save this family business."

His mother looked stunned.

"You... never told us."

Emily smiled weakly.

"I didn't do it for recognition."

Daniel's eyes filled with regret.

"And while she was carrying our child..."

He glanced at the sink.

"...you made her wash dishes while everyone else celebrated."

No one could meet his eyes.

The woman who had yelled earlier quietly stood.

"I'm... sorry."

Emily simply nodded.

Daniel wasn't finished.

He walked to the front door and opened it.

"If anyone here believes my pregnant wife belongs in the kitchen while you enjoy yourselves..."

He pointed outside.

"...there's the door."

One after another, the guests gathered their coats.

Within minutes, the house was empty.
