The investigators arrived within the hour.

What they uncovered turned the entire Rivas estate into a crime scene.

Hidden cameras behind paintings. Medical records altered by private doctors. A sealed file showing Ava’s “accident” had been reported before it even happened.

Ethan stood in the hallway as an officer read the timeline aloud.

“Brake failure… but the vehicle inspection was falsified.”

A second report followed.

“No evidence of mechanical malfunction. But sedatives were found in the victim’s system prior to the crash.”

Ethan turned slowly toward Margaret.

“You drugged her before she got in the car.”

Margaret didn’t deny it.

“She was going to leave,” she said. “She was going to take everything you built and destroy it.”

Ava let out a broken laugh from the hospital stretcher being prepared nearby.
