Chapter 2: The Secret Behind the Family Name

After the dinner was canceled, Daniel locked himself inside his study with Ava.

“Tell me exactly what happened,” he said gently.

Ava sat on the leather sofa, holding a blanket around herself.

“Grandmother came to my room earlier today.”

Daniel frowned.

“She did?”

Ava nodded.

“She asked me questions about Mom.”

The mention of her mother changed the atmosphere instantly.

Daniel’s wife, Claire, had died three years earlier under mysterious circumstances. The family had always called it an accident, but Ava had never believed that.

“She asked if I remembered what Mom told me before she died,” Ava continued.

“What did your mother tell you?”

Ava hesitated.

“She said… if anything happened to her, I should never trust anyone who wanted the family to stay perfect.”

Daniel felt a chill.

Because Claire had always suspected someone inside the family.

Someone close.

Someone powerful.

Meanwhile, Eleanor stood in the hallway outside the study, listening.

She knew Ava had discovered something.

Something she had spent years hiding.

The next morning, Daniel began searching through old family records. He found documents his mother had tried to erase.

Hidden financial transfers.

Secret meetings.

And a letter written by Claire only days before her death.

The letter contained only one sentence:

“Daniel, the person destroying this family is sitting closer to you than you think.”
