Chapter 1: The Glass That Changed Everything

Chapter 1: The Glass That Changed Everything

The glass never reached Ava’s lips.

She knocked Eleanor’s wrist away and shouted, “No!”

The sound echoed through the grand dining hall of the Harrington mansion.

For a moment, nobody moved.

The silverware stopped clinking. The servants froze in place. Even the grandfather clock in the corner seemed to pause between each heavy tick.

Eleanor Harrington, the elegant woman who had spent twenty years building the family’s perfect image, stared at Ava with disbelief.

“How dare you?” Eleanor whispered.

Ava’s breathing was uneven. Her small hands trembled as she looked at the wine glass that had fallen onto the marble floor, the red liquid spreading like a dark stain.

“I saw what you put in it,” Ava said.

The room went silent.

Her father, Daniel Harrington, immediately stood from his chair.

“What are you talking about, Ava?”

The twelve-year-old girl looked at Eleanor, tears forming in her eyes.

“Grandmother wanted me to drink it.”

Everyone turned toward Eleanor.

She gave a soft laugh.

“Daniel, this is ridiculous. She’s just a child imagining things.”

But Ava shook her head.

“No. I saw you drop something into the glass when nobody was watching.”

Daniel looked at his mother.

“Is that true?”

Eleanor’s expression changed for only a second, but it was enough.

Ava noticed.

And so did Daniel.

The dinner that was supposed to celebrate the family’s anniversary suddenly became an investigation.

Because Ava wasn’t just accusing her grandmother of a cruel prank.

She was accusing the most powerful woman in the Harrington family of trying to hurt her.

And nobody knew the truth was far darker than they imagined.
