Chapter 2 – The Truth No One Could Bury
The mansion falls into complete silence.
The pearl rests in the man's trembling palm, glowing softly beneath the crystal chandelier.
The little girl wipes her tears with the sleeve of her pale pink dress, never taking her eyes off him.
The older woman's confident expression begins to crack.
The man slowly steps toward the child.
His breathing is uneven.
His voice is barely above a whisper.
Man:
"Who gave this to you?"
The little girl hesitates before answering.
Little Girl:
"My mommy."
A painful pause.
Little Girl:
"She said... if I ever found a man who knew this pearl... I'd finally find my family."
The man's eyes fill with tears.
Fragments of childhood memories rush back.
A rainy night.
His mother clutching a tiny white pearl.
Her desperate voice.
"Promise me you'll protect your little sister."
His knees nearly give out.
He looks directly at the older woman.
For the first time, fear replaces her arrogance.
Man:
"You lied to me all these years."
May you like
She says nothing.
The silence is her confession.
