Report: Iran Approached Nuclear Capability While Holding ‘Peace’ Talks

A new report has raised serious global concerns, suggesting that Iran moved dangerously close to achieving nuclear weapons capability while simultaneously engaging in diplomatic negotiations that were publicly framed as efforts toward peace.

According to intelligence assessments and monitoring data, Tehran was continuing to expand key elements of its nuclear program even as international talks were underway to limit it.

The findings indicate that Iran had accumulated a large stockpile of uranium enriched to around 60 percent purity—far above levels needed for civilian nuclear energy and approaching the threshold required for nuclear weapons.

Experts warn that material enriched to this level could potentially be further refined to weapons-grade in a short time, placing Iran closer to building a nuclear device than at any previous point.

Some estimates suggest the country possessed enough enriched material to potentially produce multiple crude nuclear weapons if further processed.
