While the reception continued inside, we were escorted to a private lounge.
A paramedic examined Sarah's leg.
"The prosthetic can be repaired," he said. "But the socket took quite a hit. She'll need several weeks to recover."
Sarah nodded, refusing to cry.
She had spent years rebuilding herself.
She would not let Eleanor destroy that in one evening.
Across the hallway, however, Eleanor was making frantic phone calls.
I recognized one of the names she whispered.
Victor Malone.
My father's former chief financial officer.
The same man who had signed several suspicious transfers before disappearing from public life.
She wasn't calling to apologize.
She was trying to find out whether the drive still existed.
Minutes later, Harrison burst into the lounge.
"What happened?" he demanded.
"Eleanor assaulted Sarah," I answered.
"My mother would never—"
"Watch the security footage."
Silence.
For the first time, Harrison didn't defend her.
Instead, he walked straight to the club manager.
"I want every camera angle from the entrance."
Eleanor overheard him.
"No!" she shouted.
The single word was louder than any confession.
Everyone turned.
She had made one fatal mistake.
