Chapter 3 — The Truth Locked Inside the Envelope

Chapter 3 — The Truth Locked Inside the Envelope
Logan's heartbeat pounded in his ears.
He looked from Daniel...
to Emily...
then finally to Vanessa.
"No one leaves," he said firmly.
His voice carried across the ballroom.
Within minutes, his security team quietly closed every entrance.
Vanessa's smile disappeared.
Emily lowered her eyes.
"I never wanted this," she whispered.
Logan stared at her.
"Then tell me why my son just called you his mother."
Emily hesitated.
She reached into the hidden pocket inside her housekeeping apron.
A worn brown envelope.
The edges were faded from years of being carried.
Inside were photographs.
Hospital records.
A birth certificate.
DNA test results.
Every page told the same story.
Emily Mercer.
Mother.
Logan Mercer.
Father.
Vanessa's face turned pale.
"No..." she whispered.
Logan slowly looked up.
"You knew."
Vanessa backed away.
"I was protecting our family."
"Our family?" Logan's voice hardened.
"You stole mine."
Tears streamed silently down Emily's face.
"I agreed to disappear because you promised Daniel would have a better life."
She turned toward Vanessa.
"You promised I could still watch him grow."
Vanessa said nothing.
Because there was nothing left to deny.
For six years...
