Chapter 6 – A New Beginning
One year later the Salcedo mansion had become something entirely different.
The court ordered many of the family's seized assets sold.
Mariana inherited only what legally belonged to Nico.
Instead of restoring the family empire, she dissolved most of it.
She established the Nico Foundation, providing legal assistance and emergency housing for women and children escaping abusive families.
The same fisherman who had rescued them accepted the foundation's first Courage Award.
Isabel became Director of Security.
Daniel joined the board of trustees.
Every anniversary of that terrible night, Mariana and Nico returned to the quiet shoreline overlooking Banderas Bay.
They watched fishing boats drift across the water as the sun disappeared beneath the horizon.
One evening Nico squeezed her hand.
"Mom?"
"Yes?"
"Are we safe now?"
Mariana looked at the waves that had almost become their grave.
Then she smiled.
"We're more than safe."
"We're free."
Nico leaned against her shoulder.
Behind them, life continued without the Salcedo name controlling anyone.

Ahead of them stretched an open ocean—not as a place of fear, but as proof that even after the darkest night, survivors can still find their way home.
The End.
