Chapter 2 – The Footage They Never Expected

Chapter 2 – The Footage They Never Expected

By noon, the Salcedo family's statement had spread across every major news outlet in western Mexico.

"Mariana Salcedo suffered an emotional breakdown and jumped into the ocean while holding her son. The family is devastated and requests privacy during this difficult time."

Rodrigo's media empire ensured every headline sounded identical.

Inside the small hospital room in Puerto Vallarta, Mariana stared at the television in disbelief.

Nico slept beside her, exhausted but alive.

Then her phone buzzed.

It was an unknown number.

"Don't let them discharge you. I'm coming."

Fifteen minutes later, a woman in a navy security uniform entered the room.

"My name is Isabel Mendoza," she said quietly. "I worked security aboard La Reina del Pacífico."

Mariana immediately sat upright.

"You saw what happened?"

"I saw enough."

Isabel removed a flash drive from her pocket.

"The yacht records every deck twenty-four hours a day. Your father ordered us to erase the footage before sunrise."

Mariana's heart pounded.

"But one of us made a backup."

She handed over the drive.

"I've already lost my job. I refuse to lose my conscience too."

That afternoon Mariana met attorney Daniel Herrera, a former federal prosecutor known for taking impossible cases.

The three of them watched the recording together.

Camera Three showed Nico standing near the railing.

Teresa slowly walked behind him.

She looked left.

She looked right.

Then she deliberately shoved him.

Seconds later Mariana ran toward her son.

Rodrigo grabbed her arm.

When she struggled, Teresa pushed Mariana into the ocean.

There was no confusion.

No accident.

No mental health crisis.

Only attempted murder.

Daniel looked up slowly.

"They're finished."

Mariana wasn't so sure.

"My father owns newspapers."

"He doesn't own the internet."

Within an hour Daniel uploaded the unedited footage to multiple independent journalists and international media outlets simultaneously.

He knew Rodrigo could pressure one station.

He couldn't silence hundreds.

By sunset the video had exploded across social media.

Millions watched Teresa's hand strike Nico's back.

Millions watched Rodrigo stop his daughter from saving her own child.

Millions watched the yacht continue sailing away.

The comments changed overnight.

"Arrest them."

"That little boy deserves justice."

May you like

"Money doesn't erase attempted murder."

For the first time in her life, Mariana saw fear replace confidence in her father's eyes.
