Chapter 2: Secrets That Couldn't Stay Buried
Mrs. Miller suddenly slammed both hands on the table.
"This is fraud!"
Mr. Carter calmly handed her another folder.
"No. These are bank records."
The older woman's confidence disappeared instantly.
The attorney continued.
"Over the last seven years, more than three million dollars from Robert Miller's family trust was transferred into private accounts without authorization."
Everyone looked at Mrs. Miller.
Then at the younger woman.
Emily.
The daughter Mrs. Miller had always favored.
Emily's hands began to shake.
"Mom..."
Mr. Carter wasn't finished.
"There is also security footage, financial records, and emails showing that both of you intentionally hid Hannah's inheritance while convincing her that her father had left her nothing."
Hannah felt the room spinning.
Everything suddenly made sense.
The missing college fund.
The canceled medical insurance.
The endless excuses about why there was never enough money for her.
Her father hadn't abandoned her.
He had protected her.
The people she trusted had stolen from her instead.
Just then, another knock echoed through the house.
Two detectives entered the dining room.
One of them approached Mrs. Miller.
"We have a warrant to seize financial records related to the Miller Estate."
Emily burst into tears.
Mrs. Miller remained frozen in her chair.
For years they believed Hannah was powerless.
Now every lie was collapsing around them.
Hannah quietly looked at the attorney.
"You knew this would happen."
May you like
Mr. Carter nodded.
"Your father did."
