Chapter 1: The Truth Behind the Will

The dining room fell silent.

No one moved.

No one breathed.

The attorney slowly opened the leather folder in his hands and placed a thick stack of legal documents on the polished oak table.

"I am Michael Carter," he said calmly. "For the past twenty-three years, I served as Robert Miller's personal attorney."

Hannah stared at him in disbelief.

"My father... died eight years ago."

Mr. Carter nodded.

"He did. But before his passing, he prepared instructions that were never to be revealed unless you were forced out of this home."

The older woman's face drained of color.

"That's impossible," she snapped. "Robert left everything to me."

Mr. Carter looked at her without emotion.

"No, Mrs. Miller. He allowed you to live here under one condition—that Hannah would always be treated as his daughter."

He slid another document across the table.

"You violated that condition tonight."

The room became painfully quiet.

Hannah slowly picked up the papers.

Her father's unmistakable signature appeared at the bottom.

Tears filled her eyes.

Mr. Carter continued.

"Upon violation of the trust agreement, ownership of this estate transfers immediately and permanently to Hannah Brooks."

The smug smile vanished from the younger woman's face.

"What... what does that mean?" she whispered.

"It means," the attorney replied, "that every person sitting at this table is now living in Hannah's house."

The same woman who had been ordered to leave only minutes earlier now stood as the legal owner of the mansion.

For the first time that evening, Hannah wasn't crying.

She was simply looking at the people who had spent years making her feel unwanted.

Now they couldn't even meet her eyes.
