Daniel stood outside Elena's office.
No appointment.
No invitation.
Just regret.
Her assistant looked at him calmly.
"Ms. Ward has five minutes."
He walked in.
Elena never looked up from her documents.
"What do you want?"
Daniel swallowed hard.
"I made the biggest mistake of my life."
She kept signing papers.
"I know."
"I still love you."
This time...
She looked at him.
"No."
He blinked.
"You love the life you lost."
Silence.
"You never loved the woman who built it."
Daniel's eyes filled with tears.
"I'll spend the rest of my life making it right."
Elena smiled gently.
"That's exactly what you'll have."
She pressed a button.
"My next meeting is waiting."
