CHAPTER 6 — The Final Signature

CHAPTER 6 — The Final Signature
That night, the final vote was held.
Whitmore Global officially changed ownership.
Lucas sat in the back of the boardroom, silent now.
Sophie had already been escorted out of the city’s financial district.
Richard had fled overseas.
Helen refused to speak to anyone.
And Lucas…
He just watched.
Watched as I signed the last document.
The pen paused for half a second.
Then moved.
Clean.
Final.
Absolute.
I closed the folder.
The chairman stood.
“Ownership transfer complete.”
Applause filled the room.
Not loud.
Not emotional.
Just respectful.
Professional.
Correct.
I turned toward the glass wall overlooking the city.
Behind me, Lucas whispered one last time:
“Why didn’t you tell me who you were?”
I didn’t look back.
Because he didn’t deserve my eyes anymore.
Instead, I answered calmly:
“Because I wanted to know who you were… when you thought I had nothing.”
A pause.
Then I walked away.
May you like
And this time—
no one followed me.
