CHAPTER 5 — Lucas’s Fall

CHAPTER 5 — Lucas’s Fall

Lucas arrived at the tower thirty minutes later.

Disheveled.

Breathing hard.

For the first time, he didn’t look like a king.

He looked like a man who had lost everything and didn’t understand how.

He barged into the boardroom.

“Isabella!”

I didn’t turn immediately.

I just signed another document.

Slowly.

Deliberately.

Then I finally looked at him.

“You’re late.”

His voice cracked.

“What did you do to me?”

I tilted my head slightly.

“To you?”

A small smile.

“No, Lucas.”

I stood.

“I did nothing to you.”

I walked past him.

“I simply stopped protecting you.”

That hit harder than any betrayal.

Because he finally understood—

Everything he had was never his.

Not the company.

Not the wealth.

Not the power.

Not even the respect.

May you like

It was all borrowed.

From me.
