CHAPTER 3 — THE EMPIRE COLLAPSES

CHAPTER 3 — THE EMPIRE COLLAPSES
The penthouse door opened.
Three investigators entered without raising their voices.
"Mr. Carter?"
The husband swallowed hard.
"Yes..."
"We have a warrant to seize all company property and conduct a financial investigation."
The mistress instinctively stepped backward.
"I... I don't have anything to do with this."
One investigator calmly replied,
"That depends."
The husband rushed toward Elena.
"You can't do this."
She tilted her head slightly.
"I already did."
He grabbed her wrist.
For the first time all night, Elena looked disappointed instead of angry.
"You still haven't learned."
Two security officers immediately pulled him away.
He shouted after her.
"I built everything!"
Elena smiled faintly.
"No."
"You borrowed everything."
She walked to the dining table and placed a single folder in front of him.
Inside were hundreds of pages.
Contracts.
Property records.
Emails.
Financial statements.
Every document legally transferring ownership months before tonight.
"You signed every one."
He flipped through the pages with trembling hands.
"I... I never saw these."
"You never read anything I put in front of you."
His face turned white.
The mistress finally understood.
She hadn't fallen in love with a powerful man.
She had fallen in love with a man who no longer owned anything.
She quietly removed the diamond bracelet he had given her and placed it on the table.
"I'm leaving."
The husband looked at her in disbelief.
"You can't leave me now."
She didn't even look back.
"I just did."
May you like
The elevator doors closed.
He was completely alone.
